Body type

So the question is what body type are you?  The three categories are Endomorph, Ectomorph and Mesomorph. We all have a body type that is reliant on our genes and or diet, workout routine, what I mean by this is that genetically our shape is our shape but if we have changed/modified this from excessive eating or by cutting out and working out to the point where your body is in its best shape this will enhance (either in a good way or a bad way) your typical body type.

Lets take a closer look at each category.

The characteristics are naturally high levels of body fat, round or pear shaped bodies, slow metabolisms, excess calories are stored as fat, endomorphs can also be very sensitive to carbohydrates.  They have a tendency to to lose fat slowly even on very clean diets. An endomorph body type responds better to diets with high protein and low carbohydrates they also require lots of cardio to lose body fat. They have fairly good strength levels and an ability to build muscle fairly quickly, however keeping the fat off can be a challenge.

So whilst this list of characteristics looks daunting, lets have a look at the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Salma Hayek and Russell Crowe have an endomorph body type classification. Yes sure endomorphs need to work hard to achieve their fitness goals but dont get discouraged, think Jennifer Hudson as an example of what an endomorph body type can accomplish when they put their minds to it.

So lets take a look at what is required, the two most important elements are a clean diet and vigorous activity. From a diet perspective endomorphs require a low carbohydrate, low sugar diet to overcome carb sensitivity and insulin resistance. So what we are talking about think higher protein, higher in “good” fat and lower in carbohydrates. Avoid anything with white flour or white sugar and no cheat meals. Exercise wise the endomorph body type should place a strong emphasis on cardio and weight training to overcome their slower metabolisms.

Body Type – Endomorph Commitment

Beyond working hard in the gym endomorphs should really strive to adopt a more active lifestyle.  Every little bit helps in the battle against fat! For example take the stairs instead of the lift, or park your car further away from your office, shop, house etc and walk.  Also think about clenching those butt cheeks whilst sitting at your desk all day.
