Bear in mind that your muscles can be up to 70 percent water and to keep them hydrated when working out you should always carry water with you.  Think about keeping hydrated throughout the day and not just when you go to the gym.

For every pound of muscle, the average person can burn up to 50 extra calories.  So working out with weights doesn’t seem so bad now!  Resistance training is one of the best ways to increase muscle tone which in turn burns more fat,which ultimately is the end goal!

Ensuring good technique is the best way to increase strength when using weights i.e. not necessarily by ramping up the weight.  By starting out working with lower weights this ensures that you know what you are doing before increasing to heavier weights, with lighter weights you would be doing more reps say 20 reps and as you go heavier you would look at reducing your rep numbers to 12 – 15.

Whilst you cannot target a specific area for fat loss, you can work specific muscle groups to ensure you develop the tone and definition in say your shoulders or abs etc.

A single step uses almost 200 different muscles, including your hamstrings, quads, iliacus, and psoas major and minor. So think about walking more.

Your muscles memorize movement patterns. So if you end up taking a break from the gym—planned or unplanned—all your body needs is a few warm-up exercises to remember how to get into the swing of things.
